There's something quietly remarkable about this photograph. A coyote pauses mid-step in a snow-covered landscape, turning to look directly at the camera with a gaze that feels both wary and curious. The scene is spare and unhurried — deep drifts of white, a bare branch or two poking through the snow, and this one animal simply being present in its world.

The light falls softly, catching the warmth of the coyote's tawny fur against all that cool blue-white. It's the kind of contrast that doesn't need much help — nature arranged it well enough on its own.

This picture was taken at Omega Wildlife Park in Quebec. So, despite my love of hiking and camping in all seasons, for this particular image, I can't claim any special wilderness skills.
